Community Benefit Contributions As a not-for-profit organization, RML Specialty Hospital embraces the responsibility we have to those in our “community.” Through both local programs and far-reaching initiatives, RML Specialty Hospital’s unique presence is felt throughout the Chicago area and beyond. Partnering for better community health Beyond our work with our long-term acute patients, RML Specialty Hospital’s primary community benefit is the special relationship we have with our partners, Rush University Medical Center and Loyola University Health System. Through monetary contributions back to these nationally recognized institutions, we invest in the missions of both systems — helping to provide care and health resources to thousands of people throughout the Chicago area each year. Conducting research for medical advancement RML conducts and participates in numerous clinical research studies on the treatment and care of long-term ventilated patients, as well as those with infectious diseases and medically complex conditions. We are the first and only long-term acute care hospital in the country to be included in a research grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Educating the caregivers of the future Each year, we welcome nursing students and students of pharmacy, rehabilitation therapy, respiratory care and hospital administration to experience, study and continue RML’s brand of quality, compassionate care for those who need it most. Offering health education and resources to our community Our Community Benefits Council, made up of RML employees and physicians, identifies, organizes and promotes volunteer opportunities in the community for its employees. Among our many annual initiatives are services such as: Health education and preventive care screenings in the community Volunteerism and donations from RML staff Fund-raising community events Charity care, including emergency care at no charge and debt forgiveness to individuals in need Donations to other not-for-profit organizations to further their charitable missions As our presence in the community grows, so do our contributions. Across the last three years, RML is proud to have increased the value of our annual donations by more than 50 percent, from $4,126,357 to $6,560,080.
